Zella Marie Smith, 89, of Lawton, formerly of Owensboro, died Sunday, December 14, 2003, at Lawton Nursing Home. She was born May 23, 1914, in Central City, retired from General Electric, worked at Stepping Stone Childcare Co. before retiring and was past president of the Rebekah Lodge. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She married William Howard Smith in Owensboro on January 29, 1938. He died January 7, 1973. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Howard W. and Sharon Smith of Lawton; three granddaughters, Dana Michelle Smith of Lawton, Krista Kelli Lynn Smith of Oklahoma City and Melissa Leigh Ann Smith of Germany; and a great granddaughter, Brittany Wolfe of Lawton; two brothers, Bradley Walker of Sellersburg, Ind., and Bobby Walker of Mount Vernon; and five sisters, Wilda Wahl of Owensboro, Avanel Mosley of Dearborn, Mich., Violet Flenner of Owensboro, Gwen Morton of Jeffersontown and Freida Winkler of Louisville. Services are at 2:00pm. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is from noon to 2:00pm. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro. Reverend Jerry Tooley will be officiating.
