William Vernon Wathen, 79, of Owensboro, passed away at his home, 4-15-06. He was born in Daviess County to the late Rafe Wathen and Alice Irene Bowlds 4-28-26. He was retired from Hartz Construction Co as a carpenter and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WW II in Korea. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and retired member of Carpenters Local 549. Mr. Wathen enjoyed traveling, gardening, flowers, woodworking and volunteer work with Passionist Nuns and St. Vincent & DePaul in Tomball, Texas. His sister, Thomasine Bickwermert preceeded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Emma Rita Fogle Wathen, three daughters, Shirley Millay and her husband, Larry of Owensboro, Dolores Fickas and her husband, Danny of Livermore and Pamela Tanaka and her husband, Patrick, of Henderson. Four sons, Joseph Wathen and his wife, Faye of Rockport, Michael Wathen and his wife Janet of Philpot, James Wathen and his wife, Martha Whitesville and Christopher Wathen, Lexington. 34 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren. A brother, Joseph Irvin Wathen, Owensboro.
