William T.Billy TomSettles, 72, of 6222 West 5th Street Road, Owensboro, died at 10:30am. Sunday, November 6, 2005, at his home. He was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Stanley. He served in the USARMY and was a Korean War veteran. He was hired as a teacher and was the first paid head coach of the football, basketball and golf teams at OCHS from 1959 to 1961. During his two years as head coach he started the football booster club. He continued as a volunteer assistant coach with the OCHS football program until 1977. In l969, he started the youth football program in the Owensboro Catholic School system and spent the next eight years as head coach of one of the youth teams. His teams won the city championship for seven of these years. He was a maintenance supervisor at OMU until he took a job with Black & Veach International Consulting Engineers as project field manager of Muara Karang Power Plant in Jakarta, Indonesia. He continued with BVI on various projects until his retirement in 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.V. Settles and Elizabeth Smith Settles. Survivors include his wife of 53years, Paddy Iglehart Settles; seven children, Mickey Keller and her husband, Mark, of Owensboro, William ThomasTomSettles, Jr. and his wife, Tracy of Dallas, Tx., Susan Kamuf and her husband, Roger of Owensboro, Ann Mountain and her husband, Jimmy of Knoxville, Tenn., Sara Keller and her husband, Brian of Lewisburg, Tenn., Amy Forrester of Minneapolis and Joshua Settles of Owensboro; 15grandchildren, Jason and Matt Keller, Clay, Camille and Carsyn Settles, Kyle, Houston and Benjamin Kamuf, Paul and Rachel Mountain, Amanda Settles Gregory, Marley Ratliff, Jacob Keller, Caleb Keller and Isaac Settles; and two great grandchildren, Taylor Lee Keller and Ethan Gregory; five siblings, Mary Catherine Elder of Owensboro, Gene Settles and his wife, Anita of Nicholasville, Betty Howard and her husband, Doug of Owensboro, Jim Settles and his wife, Patty of Owensboro, and Joyce Settles and her husband, Larry of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews. Services are at 11am. Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ray Goetz officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Stanley, Ky. Visitation is from 3 to 8pm. Tuesday and 9 to 10:30am. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6pm. Tuesday at the funeral home.
