Shirley Ann Bell McCarter, 63, of 2326 South Stratford Drive, was called home to the Lord on June 24, 2004 while surrounded by loved ones in her home. She was born April 3, 1941 in Daviess County, Kentucky to Charles Gladys Warren Bell. She worked as a freelance social worker and worked closely with the St. Vincent dePaul and the Help Office. She was also a homemaker, an active member of th Blessed Sacrament Church, choir and Bible study; professed Third Order Franciscan she will be buried in her habit. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family, poetry, creative writing and drawing and was a lover of horses and an avid horse racing fan. Surviving are sons and daughter-in-laws, Jeffrey and Pamela Jo, Darryl R. and partner, Sam Koon, and Vincent A. McCarter all of Owensboro and Joseph M. Kristen McCarter of Great Falls, Montana. Two surviving daughters and son-in-law, Darlene McCarter of Owensboro and Jamie Ann and Adam Ross of Whiteman AFB, Missouri; and her beloved dog Lacey. The family wish expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society 319 West 10th Street, Owensboro, KY 42301 or Hospice Association Inc. 723 Harvard Drive Owensboro, KY 42301.
