Norma Jean Laichas passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on October 13th, 2020, her 93rd birthday. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 13th, 1927.
Norma was deeply loved by all who knew her, and will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, her generosity and wisdom, her deep and abiding faith, and her sense of humor and contagious laugh.
With her beloved late husband, William (d. 2001), Norma made Glasgow, Kentucky, her home in 1985. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and a long-time volunteer at T.J. Samson Hospital and was known for her compassion and empathy for loved ones and strangers, alike.
Norma is survived by her four children, Bill Laichas (Ellen) of Glasgow; Carol Gough of Lafayette, Colorado; Susan Ripperdan (Kevin) of LaGrange, Kentucky; and Nancy Laichas of Washington, DC. She was the proud grandmother of Kasey, Megan, Josh, Sarah, Sam, Shannon, Courtney and Alex and the doting great grandmother of Jeffery, Jacob, Reese, Sully, Archie, Jean, John, Sawyer, Tasma, Millie Louise and Ellie. She was preceded in death by her great grandson, Jasper.
Because of the challenges of COVID-19, a memorial service will be held at a later date, so all who loved her may celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made to the Glasgow First United Methodist Church, 500 S Green St, Glasgow, KY 42141.

Norma will be very much missed. She was loved by all and always was cheerful even when she was in great pain from her back. Was my Mom’s (Patsy Langkabel) very best friend. We love you Norma rest in peace in God’s hands.🌹
Peggy,
Thank you so much for your sweet words. I often heard Mom talk about Patsy and I know they were such great friends. It’s hard to imagine never getting one of Mom’s special hugs or hearing her laugh, but we are comforted in knowing she is free of pain and at peace with God. Thank you again for reaching out to us.

I first met Norma probably about 5 years ago, and was privileged to spend many beautiful Sundays with her. As all have said, she was beautiful inside and out and a glorious testimony to her LORD JESUS and the HOLY SPIRIT. Love you dear Norma and I am rejoicing with you as you now have met our Beloved Face-to-Face.
To you Norma’s beautiful family, I say my prayers are with you and yours as you grieve and I pray the absolute peace and comfort of the HOLY SPIRIT surround you as HE surrounded your mother. Cheryl
