Mary Jean Smith Leonhard, 78, of Oak Brook, Illinois passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020. She was born in Stanley, Kentucky on February 6, 1941 to the late William and Anna Lee Grant Smith. Mary Jean retired from Carol Stream School District where she worked as a school secretary for 25 years. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, attending sporting events, and most of all spending time with her family. Along with her parents, Mary Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Leonhard; and her Siblings, Bobbie Ann Heller, Freddie Smith, Carol Sue Gibson, and Pat Smith. Mary Jean is survived by her children, Brian (Jeanine) Leonhard of Hillside, Illinois, Bill (Janet) Leonhard of Batavia, Illinois, Kelly (John) Kuchta of South Elgin, Illinois, Paige (Jim) Pontrelli, of Oak Brook, Illinois; her 9 grandchildren, Kayla Leonhard, Zach Leonhard, Josh Leonhard, Alana Leonhard, Marisa Kuchta, Kristy Kuchta, Anna Pontrelli, Joey Pontrelli, Joline (Anthony) Coltri; her siblings, Rose Marie (Sonny) Clary, of Stanley, Kentucky, and Martha (Chico) Morris of Hawesville, Kentucky. Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, February 8, 2020 at St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 81 Church Street Owensboro, Kentucky 42301. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30 am until 10:30 am at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital; 501 St. Jude Place; Memphis, Tennessee 38105. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
