Mary Ellen “Mannie” VanVactor, 73, of Owensboro, Kentucky passed away April 23, 2022. She was born June 19, 1948 in Russellville, Kentucky to the late Frank Joseph and Margaret Geneva Herndon Lennon. Mannie retired from Daviess County Vocational School and Owensboro City Schools where she was a teacher and lunch room matron. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, an honorary captain of the Belle of Louisville, and a Kentucky Colonel. In her spare time, Mannie enjoyed boating and spending time with family and friends. She was always available to help anyone and everyone!

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Margaret Frances Lennon.

Those left to cherish Mannie’s memory are her husband of 39 years, Earnest “Butch” VanVactor; children, Joey and Kathy Cue; grandchildren, Hunter and Lilly; siblings, Marie (Alton) Malone, Burnadette Weiss, Judy Lennon, Steve (Angela) Lennon, Joe (Sandra) Lennon, and Jimmy (Marsha) Lennon; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00 am on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Precious Blood Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with prayers being said at 6:45 pm, on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory and again at Precious Blood Catholic Church on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 9:00 am until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Precious Blood Catholic, 3306 Fenmore Street, Owensboro, Kentucky 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

  7. I went to High School with Mary Ellen. Loved her and her sister Marie. I got to see her at several class reunions. I will miss her a lot. I will always remember her. Prayers for all the family.

  8. Mary Ellen and I were in high school together. She was always a friend. I’d lost touch in the last few years, but remember her and her family fondly. She will be missed.

  9. Mary Ellen was my Food Services Instructor at Vacational School in 1977. She was awesome and we had so much fun in that class. Im so sorry to hear of her passing.✝️

  10. I had the privilege to have her as my teacher in commercial foods class. She was a great teacher and a great person. She even attended my wedding and that I will never forget! She will be greatly missed by many. PrYers for peace and comfort for the family and friends.

  14. i ws a student of hers back at the commerical foods, i so enjoyed her so much for teaching me so many things that i have used in life, that i have taught my children, her special recipes i still make them today. god bless you and miss van vactor please know you were a special lady.

She was kind, generous and fun to be around. I pray for comfort as family and friends celebrate Mannie’s life and share precious memories.
