Mark DeWayne Opell passed away from this life Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the age of 65 in Vincennes Indiana, he was born on Tuesday, November 29, 1955.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife Shannon Opell, 3 children Justin Opell, Hunter Jones, Bailey Jones, 2 sisters, Maria Seals, Melissa Opell, 1 niece Kim Brown, 2 nephews Billy Messer, Terry Like, 2 great nephews Eric Connolly,  Drew Brown, 1 great niece Nichole Connolly,  along with other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Nelson Opell, and his mother Leila Smith Opell.

Mark loved his family very much and loved his friends like family. He loved to help people and he would give the shirt off of his back to help anyone, especially his friends. Doing side jobs and tinkering on things was one of his favorite things to do.  Mark was a graduate of North Knox High School, and served in the United States Navy. Mark loved his country and loved to serve. He is a lifetime member of the VFW and member of the 40ET8 Club in Vincennes, He loved the outdoors, fishing, and mushroom hunting.  He will be deeply missed by all.

Graveside services celebrating the life of Mark DeWayne Opell will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 10:00 am at Memorial Park Cemetery 919 Willow Street Vincennes, Indiana, under the direction of Goodwin Sievers Funeral Home, Vincennes, Indiana.

Memorials may be made to the VFW in Vincennes or the 40ET8 Club in Vincennes in honor of him.

  1. Mark was such a caring loving person. The absolute best son-in-law I could ask for my beautiful daughter. Mark & Shannon had a pure love for each other. Mark would do anything to help someone. He was such a good Dad to his son Justin and to Hunter & Bailey. Mark you will be forever missed. ❤️

  5. Shannon I know this is hard. It’s hard for all of us. We all loved Mark and we all love you too. I’ve known Mark since he started coming to the 40 & 8. A lot of people thought he was quirky because they didn’t know him. But he made me laugh and he would feel more comfortable because I would always sit next to him. Over time I found out what type of person he really was. He would help anybody in need and not think twice about it. We lost a true patriot and true friend. May God bless and let his soul rest in peace.
