Lona Mae Wade, 82, of Washington, Indiana went to her heavenly home on November 15, 2022 at 5:02 pm. She was born on December 4, 1939 and was the daughter of Sam and Esther Purdue.

Lona had worked for several years in the grocery business. She was a loving a wife, mother, grandma, and wonderful caregiver to her mother.

She leaves behind her husband of 63 years, Herschel Fred Wade; children Freddie Wade, Sherry Jo Giese (Paul); grandchildren, Melissa Jo Hargis (Will) and Justin O’Connor (Annie); and a great-granddaughter Audrina Jo Hargis also referred lovingly as “her little monkey”.

Lona is preceded in death by her parents and brother Jimmy Purdue.

A funeral service will be held at Sugarland Memory Gardens on Monday November 21, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the mausoleum chapel. Pastor Brad Rainey will officiate. All family and friends are invited to attend. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care of Lona.

  2. Lona Mae is my cousin and is just 2 years younger than my mother. They were great friends. Lona Mae use to babysit me as a child. I always heard kind words and wonderful memories about my parents time shared with Lona Mae in Washington, Indiana.

    I feel blessed that my wife Karin and I were able to visit with Lona this past June when we drove to Washington. One more hug and a chance to say I love you is truly a blessing.

    She will never be forgotten.

  4. Lona growing up was like a Mother to me, Lona was my Cuz. Lona Mae and my Mom were like Sisters. Lona’s gal, (her daughter) my Sherry Jo was a gift to me. My Mom wanted to name me Debbie, but Lona and her Mom my Aunt Esther told my Mom her name should be Theresa. May God bless this family heart and I love you!
