Evelyn (Barger) Upton, 60, of Vincennes, IN passed away January 8, 2022. She was born in Hazard, KY on June 7, 1961 to the late Leroy Barger and Della Bowling. Evelyn attended Austin High School. She married, the love of her life, Gene Upton on December 9 1983. Evelyn was a member of the 281 Moose Lodge. She was a shift manager at the local grocery store, JayC, for the last 10 years. Evelyn was known for loving life music and attending concerts, especially Rick K. and the All Nighters. She also was a huge fan of the Indianapolis Colts. She spent many years at the Cub League concession stand and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Cleveland Bowling; brother Carl Barger.

She is survived by her husband, of 38 years, Gene Upton; children Stacy Upton, Jamie (David) Goff, Christy Bradley, Cleveland (Jessica) Upton, Daniel Upton; siblings Ruthie Spicer, Elmer (Jewell) Barger, Marion Barger, Benny Barger; grandchildren Barrett, Keziah, Griffith, Ophelia Upton, Daxton Kizer, Emilie Keltz, Faith Gallaher, Chris (Jenni) Graham, Stephanie Gilbert, Stacia Rice; great-granchildren Ava Brown, Abigail Ashby; and many nieces and nephews.

Goodwin-Sievers is honored and entrusted with the care of Mrs. Upton. Visitation will take place January 12, 2022 from 3-7pm at Goodwin-Sievers. A service will take place January 13, 2022 at 11am at Goodwin-Sievers with burial at Memorial Park immediately following. Online condolences may be made at www.goodwinsievers.com

  1. So sorry…she was such a great lady. Loved working with her at JayC and hanging out back in the day. We had so much fun. She will be missed by so many. Sorry I can’t make the services, but will keep the family lifted up in prayer.

  2. She was the most spirited person I know. She loved life and cutting up with people. She was always so sweet to Kaleena and loved her as if she were her own. Evelyn is the one person I knew I could be myself around her, because our personalities and the way we see the world were a lot alike.
    You will be missed. Love ya girl.

  10. Words will never do this woman justice. Even though she is gone, I can close my eyes and hear her laugh. I can see her dancing and singing. I can feel her energy. If I had to choose one thing Evelyn did best, it was making you feel so loved and like you were the most important person on the planet. I will miss her, but her memory will live on.

  18. Evelyn was like family to all of us . We called her Auntie Evelyn . We truly will miss her dearly . She was such a fun , kind hearted person . She always knew how to have a good time . I will miss all of our gossip sessions , of us just catching up when we haven’t seen each other in awhile ..lol .
