David Anthony Shelton “Taz”, 58, of Owensboro went to be with the Lord on his mother’s birthday, June 12, 2020. He was born in Owensboro on February 7, 1962 to Bertha “BJ” Alvey Shelton and the late Elmer Shelton. David was retired from the Millwright local 1080. He was a member of the Eagle’s club 4168, and was a member of the Catholic faith. David was a UK fan, an avid hunter, and a NASCAR fan. He enjoyed playing his guitar, camping, golfing, cooking, and being with his family and friends.

Along with his father Elmer Shelton, David is preceded in passing by his grandparents, Elmer and Anna Alvey, and Elise “G.G.” Shelton.

David is survived by his wife of 8 years, Nancy Basham Shelton; 1 brother, Stephen (Vicki) Shelton; 1 nephew, Stephen Anthony Shelton; 1 niece, Brandi Whitfield; 2 step-children, Thomas Daniels, and Michelle Clark; 8 step-grandchildren, 4 step-greatgrandchildren; and his favorite dog companion, Buster.

Services will be 10:00 am Friday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory, with Fr. John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday and again on Friday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. An Eagle’s Ceremony will take place at 5:30 pm Thursday and Prayers will be at 6:00 pm Thursday.

  1. Uncle David, thank you for taking care of my Aunt Nancy and making her the happiest she could be. Thank you for being there through out Uncle Steve and Dad’s passing, making sure we were good and had everything and thank you for accepting us as part of your family. You will be missed so much! I love you and I’ll see you again, Aunt Nancy will be in great care we know you’ll be looking after us.

    My heart breaks for all David was a wonderful person always full laughter and smiles. He would make you feel like you were part of the family he is and always will be a wonderful person and will missed dearly. But now he is in a place smiling on everyone he truly loves.     I pray you are at peace my old friend. I have nothing but good memories of our times together. I remember getting in a bit of trouble together in the 6th grade, and both of us getting “licks” in the vice principals office! I remember how you conquered Hodgkins Disease, and came back even stronger. I remember how we cruised on Saturday night, listening to Head East and Skynyrd. And I remember our trip to Daytona!
